Cast iron skillet pizza recipe will show you how to make the best homemade pan pizza/skillet pizza in three simple steps.In this pan pizza recipe, we don't need to wait for double proofing and so we can make this cast iron skilet pizza in almost 1 hour.

Ingredients
  

Pan pizza dough

  • 226 g Flour 1 and 3/4 cups(loosely packed)
  • 140 ml Lukewarm Water 1/2 cup +1 and 1/2 tbsp
  • 1 tsp Sugar 4g
  • 1/2 tsp Salt 2.8 g
  • 1/2 tsp Yeast 1.6 g
  • 1/2 tbsp Olive oil 7.5 ml

For pan pizza topping

  • 2-3 tbsp Pizza sauce (or according to your preference)
  • 100-115 g Shredded Mozarella cheese around 1 cup(or according to your preference)
  • Pepperoni (optional)

Instructions
 

Prepare the pan pizza dough

  • In to a bowl, pour in the lukewarm water.Water which is not cold nor hot but slightly warm.
    Then add in the yeast, sugar,salt and olive oil.
    Stir and mix them together.
    Add in the flour and combine them all together to form a shaggy mass of dough.
  • Transfer the dough on to a clean work surface and we need to knead the dough.
    Knead the pan pizza dough for 6-8 minutes or until the dough become soft and supple.
  • This pizza dough can make two medium sized pizza thin crust(8 inch and 10 inch) or one big pizza thick crust (12 inch)
    So I divided the dough into two parts.
    Place the pan pizza dough on to the lightly oiled pan.
    Press and flatten the dough to fit the pan.
    If you find the dough rebounding back, just apply some oil on top and leave it there for 3 minutes so that the dough can relax.This will help you to flatten the dough easily.

Proof the pan pizza dough

  • Now cover the pan with a cling film and let the dough sit and rise for 40 minutes in a warm environment.
    After 40 minutes ,the dough will be slightly puffy.
    With the help of a fork prick on the top of dough so that steam can pass through while baking.
    Then top the pizza with some pizza sauce.
    We can use homemade pizza sauce which is so easy to make or store bought pizza sauce to make pan pizza.
    Then top it with some mozzarella cheese and pepperoni or with your favorite ingredients.
    Now they are ready to go for baking.

Bake the Cast Iron Skillet Pizza

  • For making this pan style pizza, I have used cast iron skillet; and so it will take some time to get heated up in the oven.
    So before taking it into the preheated oven, place it on the stove top.
    Heat the pan on a low heat for the first 3-4 minutes or slightly more according to the thickness of our pizza dough.
    Then increase the temperature to medium to high heat for the next 1 minute that the bottom of our pan become hot and the bottom of our pizza starts to turn golden brown in colour.
    At this point if you observe closely you can see some bubbling on the sides of the pan.
    So now take the pan into the 480F or 250 C preheated oven and place it on the upper rack of the oven.
    Bake for 7-8 minutes.
    After baking you will get nice ,tasty… cheesy pan made pizza.
    Transfer it onto a cooling rack immediately after baking .So that the bottom will not trap steam and get soggy.
    And thus it will have wonderful crunch on the bottom.
