How to make Nutella stuffed Pancakes

You can make this Nutella filled pancakes in three simple steps.

  1. Make the Nutella discs.
  2. Make the pancake batter.
  3. Cook the Nutella pancake.

Step 1: Make the Nutella Discs

This step is the secret to getting a perfect molten center without making a mess.

Line a tray with parchment paper.

Scoop spoonfuls of Nutella onto the tray.

Flatten each spoonful into thin discs (about 7 cm in diameter or almost size of a cookie).

Freeze for at least 20 minutes. They don’t have to be rock solid, but they should be firm enough to handle without melting.

Tip: Make a bunch of these discs and keep them in the freezer—you’ll thank yourself on busy mornings.

3. Sift in the “flour and baking powder”. Gently mix until no dry flour remains.

Don’t overmix! A few lumps are perfectly fine and will actually help keep the pancakes fluffy.

Step 3: Cook the Nutella Stuffed Pancakes

Heat a nonstick pan on low heat. Add a little butter and spread it evenly with a paper towel and remove any excess oil or butter. The pan should be warm, not smoking hot. We want the pancakes to be cooked all through, in a low heat.

The Non stick pan I have used is 5 inch or 13 cm in diameter.

Pour a spoonful of batter into the pan and gently spread it. Cover with a lid and cook for about 20 seconds.

Place one Nutella disc in the center.

Cover with more pancake batter, just enough to seal the Nutella inside.

Cover the pan again.

Cook until the edges are set and you see small bubbles inside. This may take around 3-3.5 minutes.

Troubleshooting Your Nutella Pancakes

Nutella pancakes are such a treat! And while they’re simple, a couple of little problems can pop up. No worries—we’ve got the tricks to keep your pancakes picture-perfect.

1. Gooey Center/ Undercooked Pancake

If the center of the pancake is too soft or undercooked, the inside of the pancake will turn gooey. It’s often because the pan is too hot, causing the outside to cook faster than the inside.

Fix: Keep the heat low and cook slowly to allow the pancake to cook evenly. It will take around 3-3.5 minutes for this thick Nutella pancake( in a low medium heat ) to get cooked on the first side and then around 1-1.5 minutes for the other side to get cooked properly.

As you keep cooking, the pan naturally gets hotter. This means later batches may cook faster and need a little less time. Keep an eye on your pancakes and, if necessary, lower the heat slightly to ensure they cook through evenly without over browning.

2. Dense and Rubbery Pancake

Over mixing the batter can make pancakes dense or rubbery. A few lumps in the batter are perfectly fine—they actually help keep the pancakes fluffy.

Fix: Take care not to over mix the batter. Sift the flour and add to make the batter; this will help the batter to be more airy.

3. Pancake Loosing it’s Shape while Flipping

Before flipping, ensure the edges are cooked and the center is bubbly. If the sides are too soft, the pancake can fall apart and the chocolate filling may leak out. Flip gently and at the right time and make sure to cover the pan with lid so that the steam will also help in cooking.

4. Uneven Browning

Using too much butter to grease the pan can cause uneven coloring though it doesn’t affect the taste.

Fix: Lightly grease the pan and then wipe off any excess with a paper towel before adding the batter. This helps your pancakes turn a beautiful, even golden brown.

5. Pancakes are pale in color

If your pancakes look pale instead of golden brown, here are the possible reasons:

  • Low heat: The pan isn’t hot enough to create that golden crust.
  • Not enough sugar in the batter: Sugar helps with caramelization, so very low sugar can mean lighter pancakes.
  • Too much butter/oil in the pan: Excess grease can prevent even browning.

Fix: Preheat your skillet on medium heat before pouring in the batter, make sure you use enough sugar, and lightly grease the pan (then wipe off any excess) so the pancakes cook to a beautiful golden brown.

6. Pancakes that stick to the pan

This might happen if,

  • You’re not using a nonstick pan
  • The pan isn’t hot enough before adding the batter
  • The pan wasn’t lightly greased with butter or oil

Fix: Always preheat your nonstick skillet properly before adding the batter. Brush the pan with a thin layer of butter or oil. Keep the heat at medium—this allows the pancakes to cook evenly without sticking.

By following these tips, you can avoid common pitfalls and enjoy perfectly fluffy, Nutella pancakes every time.

Hi Bincy, The pancakes look amazing. I have only tried chocolate chip pancakes, this is something new. My kiddo will surely love it. The pan cakes look so fluffy and soft. My only query today is that can I replace the APF with any millet or whole wheat flour?

I love your fool proof recipes, presentations and videos. Best wishes..

Hi Vijitha! Thank you so much 😊 I haven’t tried this recipe with millet or whole wheat flour, so I’m not entirely sure how it would turn out. But I think a mix of 50% all-purpose flour and 50% millet whole wheat flour could work really well. Let me know if you try it—I’d love to hear how it goes!
