What is panini bread

panini is an Italian word which means “small bread, bread rolls” and panino means (singular ) “bread roll”. Panini is a sandwich made with Italian breads like ciabatta, usually served warmed by grilling or toasting.

In many English-speaking countries, the name panini is given to a grilled sandwich made from any type of bread.

We can use baguette or ciabatta or focaccia for making panini bread.

The bread is cut horizontally and usually filled with fresh cheese, ham, mortadella or salami.

It is often served warm after having been pressed by a warming grill.

We want our bread to get cooked completely but at the same time, we don’t want that golden color on the bread.

So bake at 350/375 F for 20-22 minutes.

After baking, let the panini rolls cool down completely.

If you want to store the panini rolls for later, wrap tightly with a parchment paper.Keep it inside a ziplock bag and then keep it inside the freezer.

How to make this white panini bread into whole wheat panini bread

We can make whole wheat panini bread by using whole wheat flour instead of all purpose flour.

But when we use 100% whole wheat flour, there are chances that the whole wheat panini rolls will become dense and heavy.

And so it is better to use part of flour as all purpose flour to make soft whole wheat panini bread.

In this white Panini bread recipe, instead of 300g of all purpose flour, you can use 200 g all purpose flour and 100 g whole wheat flour or 150g each.

If your whole wheat flour has enough gluten strength, then you can use 100% whole wheat flour to make soft whole wheat panini bread.
