Super Easy Dessert Bread Recipe : Boxed Cinnamon Rolls/Cinnamon Sugar Bread

This Easy Dessert Bread Recipe :Boxed Cinnamon Rolls or Cinnamon Sugar Bread is made in a very simple and easy method.

It tastes very similar to our easy version of classic cinnamon rolls.

While creating the recipe for this Boxed cinnamon rolls I tried to make the bread dough very simple.We are using only five basic ingredients to make the bread dough.

I didn’t add any butter and used only a single tablespoon of sugar to prepare the bread dough.

Also I tried to make this, a fast and quick bread recipe not compromising the taste and texture of the bread.We are using one rise method of proofing and so we can save a lot of our time.

To make it appealing to everyone in our home I tried to make it healthier by reducing the amount of sugar than usual dessert breads.

This cinnamon sugar bread is not overly sweet and it is best to serve it with the thin cream cheese frosting.

Ingredients Needed For Making Cinnamon Dessert Bread

For the bread dough

  • Flour :260 g or 2 cups (loosely packed)
  • Milk :170g or 166 ml or 1/2 cup +3 tbsp
  • Salt :3/4 tsp
  • Yeast :1 tsp
  • Sugar :1 tbsp or 12.5 g

For the filling

  • Sugar:50g or 1/4 cup
  • Soft Butter:28g or 2 tbsp
  • Cinnamon powder:1/2 tsp

For the frosting

  • Cream Cheese( at room temperature):3.2 tbsp or 45g
  • Butter(at room temperature): 2.1 tbsp :30g
  • Powdered Sugar :1 tbsp or 7g
  • Milk :1/4 Cup or 60 ml
  • Vanilla extract or Vanilla sugar :1/2 tsp

How to make this easy cinnamon sugar bread

We can make this easy dessert bread in four simple steps

1.Prepare the bread dough for cinnamon bread

Into a bowl,add all our ingredients together and mix them to form a shaggy mass of dough.

Add the milk,sugar,yeast,salt and flour and mix them together.

Transfer the dough onto a clean work surface and knead the dough until the dough become soft and elastic.

Only a well kneaded dough can produce soft and fluffy cinnamon roll bread .

It will be so much easier if you are using a stand mixer to prepare the dough.

In a stand mixer, just knead the dough for around 8 minutes using the dough hook attachment.

Once we get a soft and elastic dough, let the dough sit and rest for 10 minutes.

This will give some time for the dough to rest and this will make it easy for us to roll and shape the dough.

2.Shape into a rectangle and fill with toppings

After 10 minutes, just roll and shape the dough to fill your pan.As mine is a rectangular tray I shaped it into a rectangular sheet.

Place the dough sheet on a well greased baking tray.

Spread the top with cinnamon sugar butter.

Make square pattern on top of the dough using a sharp knife.

Cover the baking tray with a plastic film.

How to make cinnamon sugar butter mix

It’s so easy to make this cinnamon sugar mix.

Into a small bowl add in the softened butter.

Add in the sugar.We can use either brown sugar or white sugar.

when using white sugar the top will turn golden brown when it gets caramelized towards the end of baking.

I didn’t notice any extra browning to my cinnamon bread when I used white sugar instead of brown sugar and I loved the caramel flavor from the caramelized white sugar.

Then add in the cinnamon powder and mix it all together to form a homogenous cinnamon sugar paste.

3.Proof the shaped bread dough

Let the dough sit and rise for 30 minutes or until the dough really puff up.

If your place is really cold it may take 10-15 minutes longer for the dough to puff up nicely.

4.Bake the Cinnamon Sugar Bread/Cinnamon rolls

Bake at 180 C or 350 F for 32-35 minutes.

The baking time may vary according to the size of the baking tray.The deeper tray will take longer and shallow pan take shorter time.

If the top turn golden brown early, cover the top with aluminum foil and bake properly for 32-35 minutes

The top of Cinnamon Bread will have slight crunchiness when it is just out of the oven.

Let them sit for about 3 minutes.This will give some more time for the cinnamon dessert bread to do it’s residual baking and to get completely cooked through inside.

Now we will pour in the delicious creamy milk on top of the bread while it is still warm.

Thus the bread will absorb all those creaminess and it will add to its deliciousness.

They taste like cinnamon rolls slathered with some cream cheese frosting.The good thing is that this quick cinnamon bread is so much easier to make than a regular cinnamon rolls recipe.

How to make the milky cream cheese frosting

In to a bowl add in the cream cheese and butter which are at room temperature.

When they are soft and at room temperature it will be so much easier to mix them all together.

Add the powdered sugar or we can use fine granulated sugar as well.

For flavoring I have also added some vanilla powder.We can also add vanilla extract instead.

Then add milk kept at room temperature.

Mix them all together to form a thin cream cheese frosting.

Can I make this Sweet Cinnamon Bread without the frosting

Yes you can.But I highly recommend you to make the frosting and taste it.

It is so different with and without the frosting.Both the texture and taste.

Texture:Without frosting its has a soft crunch and with frosting its squishy soft.

Taste :Without frosting it taste like a sweet cinnamon bread and with frosting, it tastes like a dessert.

For Bread Dough

      If your place is really cold or if the cinnamon butter topping is cold,it may take 10-15 minutes longer for the dough to puff up nicely.

    Bake the Boxed Cinnamon Bread

    • Bake at 180 C or 350 F for 32-35 minutes.
      The baking time may vary according to the size of the baking tray.The deeper tray will take longer and shallow pan take shorter time.
      At around 25 minutes the top may seem baked but it does not mean that its cookied through inside so bake properly for 32-35 minutes
    • Let them sit for about 3 minutes.This will give some more time for the cinnamon dessert bread to do it’s residual baking and to get completely cooked through inside.
